What is Fenbendazole and its Traditional Use?
Fenbendazole is an anthelmintic drug primarily used to treat parasitic infections in animals. It belongs to the benzimidazole class and works by inhibiting the metabolism of worms, preventing their survival. Although fenbendazole has been widely used in veterinary medicine, recent studies have sparked interest in its potential applications for human health, particularly as a possible adjunctive treatment for cancer. Its ability to disrupt cellular mechanisms in cancerous cells is the focus of growing research.

Investigating Fenbendazole’s Effects on Cancer Cells
In recent years, there have been anecdotal reports and early-stage laboratory studies suggesting that fenbendazole may possess anti-cancer properties. Researchers have observed that fenbendazole can target cancer cells by interfering with microtubule formation, a process essential for cell division. By disrupting the microtubules, the drug may inhibit the proliferation of cancerous cells, potentially slowing tumor growth. However, while these findings are promising, clinical trials on humans are still limited and inconclusive.

Current Research and the Future of Fenbendazole in Cancer Treatment
Despite the lack of extensive clinical trials, interest in fenbendazole as a cancer treatment is growing. Researchers are working to better understand its mechanisms and assess its safety and efficacy in human trials. As it is already an FDA-approved drug for animal use, the pathway to testing fenbendazole in humans might be quicker compared to developing entirely new therapies. However, more rigorous and comprehensive studies are needed before it can be considered a viable treatment for human cancer. fenbendazole
